What Is Hexbound?

Hexbound is a fast-paced retro fantasy FPS that combines classic shooting with magic, exploration, and light RPG progression. You fight monsters across five worlds, search for hidden areas, collect loot, upgrade your build, and take on large boss battles.

Unlike many straightforward FPS games, this game makes exploration part of the strategy. Locked doors, switches, secret rooms, and alternative paths can reward players who take time to investigate.

How to Play

Objective:

Clear monster-filled levels, discover useful resources, and reach the next stage while improving your character.

Quick Start:

Move through the dungeon, eliminate enemies, look for keys and switches, and then explore side areas before leaving. Use different weapons and spells depending on the enemy or situation.

Controls:

  • WASD: Move
  • Mouse: Aim
  • Left Click: Fire
  • Right Click: Secondary attack
  • Space: Jump
  • Shift: Sprint
  • R: Reload
  • Mouse Wheel / Number Keys: Switch weapons
  • E: Interact

Hardest Challenges

The biggest difficulty comes from boss encounters, enemy variety, and resource management. Large enemies can punish players who stand still, while limited ammunition makes constantly using the same weapon inefficient. Learning when to switch between guns, melee attacks, and magic becomes especially important later in the campaign.

Best Tips & Strategy

  • Check suspicious walls and corners. Secret areas can provide ammo, gold, or better equipment, so don't always follow the obvious route.
  • Don't waste powerful attacks on weak enemies. Regular firearms are often enough for smaller targets; keep stronger weapons and spells for dangerous groups or bosses.
  • Keep moving during fights. Strafing and sprinting make it easier to avoid projectiles while giving you better opportunities to reposition.
  • Upgrade your favorite equipment first. Concentrating perk points on weapons or abilities you actually use creates a more effective build than spreading upgrades too thin.
  • Explore before triggering the next objective. Once you move deeper into a level, backtracking can be risky. Checking nearby rooms first can leave you better prepared for the next encounter.

Practical Gameplay Takeaway

The key lesson in Hexbound is don't confuse speed with rushing. Moving aggressively helps you survive, but blindly running toward the exit can mean missing resources that make later encounters easier. A better approach is to clear immediate threats, investigate useful side paths, and save your strongest abilities for moments when they can change the fight.
